Montreal Drag Strip was forced to close after only a couple of races in 1962, and Gord Atkinson quickly looked for another place to promote drags. He got permission to use the old Kempton Park half-mile dirt oval just south of La Prairie, which ran from the early 1950s to 1967. The few races there were held at night. Racers had only about 100 feet to shut down, and instead of following turn one they sped through an opening in the 8-foot wooden fence and into a graveyard. Only about two events were held before Atkinson ended his short drag racing promotion career. Soccer fields now cover the site of the oval.
