Edgar E. Berry, Emmon Butch, Dorothy Holland and Jeffrey L. Trousdale filed incorporation papers for Jett Strip on May 28, 1976. Keith Allbritten was the top winner on Sunday, August 1, 1976. The strip closed for the summer in June 1977. That year Sam Bates bought the Tuscumbia property and started building a new North Alabama Speedway beside the strip. According to his daughter, Samantha Bates, he honored the two years left on the drag strip’s lease, then took it over in 1979 and renamed it North Alabama Dragway to match the speedway. IHRA first sanctioned it that year. It also goes by North Alabama “247” Dragway. The owners had it up for sale in 2017.
