History

This eighth-mile strip, also known as Moulton Dragway, sits about six miles southeast of Moulton in Speake, just south of the Moulton Speedway dirt oval. In the early years there was no return road, so cars turned around at the end and drove back up the track to the start. Carl, J. E. and William Jacobs filed incorporation papers for Moulton Dragway on April 20, 1966. On June 13, 1999, a fight among several men at the Moulton Outlaw Dragway ended in a shooting. News reports put the Sunday crowd at about 600, with many drinking and betting on the races. Police had already been called there that month for a wreck said to involve alcohol, and had made numerous alcohol-related arrests. The year the track first opened hasn’t been found.

Of this video, David Sharp wrote DSL: "This video shows Decatur, AL Jim Cochrane's newly-received Thunderbolt (28th of 100 Built) from Dick Coffey Ford that he named “The Country Boy”. The car was Wimbledon White and, as sold, had automatic transmission, plexiglass windows, rear window clips, fiberglass front bumper, and the other customary Thunderbolt body parts."
