This eighth-mile strip was part of a complex with a dirt oval and a kart track. The earliest record found is a May 1960 report of a drag racing death at an unnamed private strip near Jacksonville, probably this one, and the strip may have opened in the late 1950s. On November 6, 1960, Jack Patrick set the track record in his Bad News dragster at 9.1 seconds and 158 mph. Hot Rod listed Jacksonville Dragway as NHRA sanctioned in December 1970. The Jacksonville Racing Association bought the 66-acre complex in 1982 for $634,600 and added 50 acres in 1997 for $56,400. Jax Raceways owners Roger Godbee and Larry Browning sold the land to a developer in 2004, and by 2020 the site had become a truck stop and a Caterpillar dealership.
