One weekend each year, Jack Garland Airport in North Bay hosted eighth-mile drag racing to raise money for North Bay General Hospital. The Rotary Club of Nipissing and North Bay Motor Sports organized it.

Background

The airport is at Hornell Heights, about 4.6 miles north-northeast of North Bay, right beside Canadian Forces Base North Bay, the control centre for NORAD's Canadian operations. It's named for Jack Garland, who represented the Nipissing riding in Parliament for many years, and it put on an air show during the city's Heritage Festival until 2004.
