The Knucklebusters Hot Rod Club of Springfield held a drag race on September 23, 1956, two miles west of Illiopolis off Route 36. Over 60 cars ran, and Jim Delaney of Springfield had the best time at 15.84 seconds in his Chevy-engined “rail job.” Another race was tentatively planned for October 7.
