The Hustlers Car Club of Glendive held drag races now and then on the 4,500-foot northwest-southeast runway of the closed Glendive airport. A race on May 17, 1970 drew 100 racers and 2,300 spectators and paid $835 to 11 winners. It was NHRA-sanctioned in 1970, with Bob McPherson as strip manager. The last race was May 15, 1982. The city ended the club’s five-year lease after approving a special improvement district on the city-owned land, and ball diamonds and businesses now cover the old airport.
