Odell McLaurin built and owned this two-lane strip on Eatonville Road north of Hattiesburg, half a mile from the I-59 Eatonville exit, with O. A. Drennan as vice president and over a hundred acres of free parking. It opened September 20, 1964, and Paul VanderLey won top stock eliminator at 127.5 mph. An early ad, written in the segregated terms of the day, promised a separate area for Black patrons within a few weeks. Races ran every Sunday. A Super Stock Invitational on November 1, 1964, with $250 to win, drew Bill ‘Maverick’ Golden in his 426 Hemi Dodge and VanderLey in his 427 Comet. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Drennan bought the track outright in fall 1965.
Jerry Mooney owned it in 1975 under NHRA sanction, and IHRA sanctioned it in 1979. Mooney came back as owner and promoter in 1990 and sold it in fall 1995 to Ralph Abraham, George Davis and Todd Nace. Nace and Abraham owned it through at least 2007. It later ran as an outlaw track without a major sanctioning body, hosting events like the Hangover Nationals and Mardi Gras Blowout. It closed in 2018. In early 2023 Garrett Rudd was getting approvals to reopen, needing only to sign the lease and repair the track, and he hoped to make it safer by replacing the old guardrails with concrete walls.
