Drag races ran at Hope Municipal Airport, four miles northwest of Hope, by 1965 and possibly earlier, every two weeks that year. On June 12, 1966, Richard Tharpe drove the Bush-Payne top fueler from Dallas to a track and Arkansas record of 209.78 mph. By 1967 the track was NHRA-sanctioned and raced on the second and fourth Sundays, with Bob Thompson as manager.
