The Ramblers’ Road Club of Miami, about a year old and affiliated with NHRA, held a race on the base’s main runway on May 16, 1954, and scheduled its first annual charity drag race there for May 30, with thirty classes. Another race ran August 1, and a meet was set for November 6-7, 1954. A Miami News article on August 23, 1954 said the club sponsored races at Homestead every Sunday that year. RKO Pictures featured the club in a 1954 short film, Hot Rod Galahads, which has good footage of a drag race that may have been at Homestead. One online source says drag racing at Homestead started in 1952, but no record confirms it.
