Ray Futch filed incorporation papers for L & L Dragway on August 12, 1996. The eighth-mile strip was built on the southwest edge of Walthourville next to U.S. Highway 84E. According to a longtime track researcher, the L & L name came from the strip being near the Liberty and Long county line. It opened in 1997 and closed in 2002 under unfortunate circumstances, and the bank that financed it took possession. A well-known racer tried to buy it from the bank and was turned down.
