In August 1955 the Hays Dragons car club incorporated to sponsor drag races near Hays, possibly at the airport. Little else is known.
Background
If the 1955 races did run at the airport, they'd have used the old Hays Municipal Airport, which filled a half-mile square with its southeast corner at East 13th Street and Canterbury Drive. Today's Hays Regional Airport, three miles southeast of town, didn't open until around 1960.
