Drag races ran at the airport half a mile north of Haynesville by 1969. In 1970 they ran every Sunday from February 15, admission was $2, and eliminator winners could take cash or a trophy. On April 26, 1970, Gene Snow and Kelly Chadwick ran a funny car match race. An early 1977 ad said the Haynesville Dragstrip was under new management. That season opened March 6, and on April 24 Frank Cook’s ‘77 Vega met Jack Robbins’ ‘77 Monza in a funny car match race. Mad Man Marko made exhibition runs in his Monza funny car wheelstander on April 2, 1978. Jerry Longoria was promoter by the late 1970s, possibly earlier. Jerry Malone was killed in time trials on March 25, 1979, and no records of racing after 1979 have been found.
