A couple of drag races were reported at a track about seven miles south of Grenada, which would put it near Elliot and the old Camp McCain. The camp trained U.S. troops in World War II and held thousands of German prisoners of war. Sunday races ran March 25 and April 1, 1962. On September 30, 1962, before a Sunday race officially began, four men were driving fast on the strip when the driver lost control. The car overturned and caught fire, pinning all four underneath, and Tyrus Raymond Whitehorn of Memphis died of his burns. One woman has a trophy her grandfather won at Grenada Dragways in the 1950s.
