Melvin C. Greer, Sr. and Melvin C. Greer, Jr. owned this eighth-mile track in Chandler, about nineteen miles northeast of Evansville. Called Greater Evansville Raceway, it was set to open on June 7, 1964, under NHRA sanction, with the Road Knights car club running the races and wooded picnic grounds on site. On July 19, 1964, the Evansville Road Knights dragster ran 173.07 mph. The track hosted the AHRA 1/8th-mile world championships on July 9-10, 1966. It sits next to a 3/8-mile dirt oval.

Super stock racing was popular in the 1970s, and John Ramsey, known as the Super Stock king of Evansville, won often. On April 11, 1971, he ran just .07 second off the national record. On March 19, 1972, 2,500 fans watched Ken Holthe of St. Louis beat nine other pro stock cars in his ‘71 Camaro. Harold Baker bought the drag strip and oval in 1976. Don Meece ran the drag strip for him in the 1970s and 1980s, Bobby Harper leased it for a few years, and Don’s son Jeff Meece ran it from 2000 to 2005. Don Meece once had to break up a fight in the pits after Shirley Muldowney punched Connie Kalitta. Baker closed the drag strip in 2015, which puzzled many racers, while the oval kept running under a sublease to Kevin Bayer. The strip reopened in June 2016 as Greater Evansville Dragway.
