Little is known about this strip beyond the fact that it ran eighth-mile races and was NHRA sanctioned by 1977, if not earlier. It is probably the strip local residents, led by Alpha Strickland, were trying to start in the fall of 1975. They formed a group with the joking name Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Dragsters to raise money and publicity. In November 1975 Mrs. Terry Strickland and Randy Miller asked the Pampa city commissioners for use of the old auxiliary air field four miles south of Pampa off the Clarendon Highway (Highway 70). The commission tabled the matter in January 1976 after NHRA officials said they couldn’t make the meeting. Newspapers say nothing more, but listings in National Dragster suggest permission was granted.
