The Boise Timing Association held the Idaho State Championship drag races at Gowen Field on August 24-25, 1957. This may also be the Boise Drag Strip that Hot Rod’s August 1963 issue listed with races on July 21, August 11 and 25, September 8 and 22, and October 6 and 20. In 1959 the WAS dragster set a track record of 133.33 mph in 11.24 seconds. On July 10, 1966, Warren Welch of Reno won top eliminator in his fuel dragster with an unofficial speed over 200 mph, at a race co-sponsored by the Boise Police Association and the BTA. The city of Boise built the airfield around 1936-38. It trained bomber crews in World War II, went back to the city after the war, and is now leased to the Idaho Air National Guard.
