The track opened as Golden Horseshoe Dragway in 1970 under NHRA sanction, with Carl Bristow operating it. In 1971 it became Toronto International Dragway and was also IHRA sanctioned. Neighbors complained loudly about the noise to the Esquesing township council, and the dispute turned bitter. Ed Rachanski and Dave Pratt took over in 1971, promising to do better. On September 12, 1971, Dickie Harrell was killed when a front tire blew and he hit a pole. Fire destroyed a concession stand in 1974. The track closed in 1975 to make way for housing, and arsonists burned the old control tower in 1980.
