The Drag-Uns car club, sanctioned by the NHRA, held its first drag race at the Fredericksburg Airport on June 26, 1955. The club expected about 75 competitors and charged fifty cents admission. Its second race of the season, on August 14, 1955, drew 1,500 spectators and 90 entries. By then the club had insurance through the NHRA and a new public address system. Racers paid $1.25 to enter and spectators fifty cents. The Texas Department of Public Safety timed the runs, and fifteen class trophies were handed out.
