Drag races were one of the events at the annual National Midwest Motorcycle Rally, and most of the rally, including the July 4 drag races, took place at the county airport three miles east of Dodge City. Drag races ran there off and on after that, including June 27, 1955, and again at the 1955 rally. Racing ended when the airport was sold and used strictly as an airport.
