The Saints and Firebugs hot rod clubs graded a dirt drag strip near the Grand Speedway oval. By the time it opened around June 1955 the Saints had folded, but the Firebugs had nineteen members, mostly Grand Junction high school students. City and state police and club officers supervised the races. Grand Speedway was a dirt oval that opened in 1950 at the northeast corner of Grand Avenue and North 28th Street. No races after 1955 have been found.
