Bruce Haught and Vernon ‘Chip’ Kooser filed incorporation papers for this IHRA-sanctioned eighth-mile strip on November 2, 1997, and it opened in May 1998. It was a fast track, and in 2006 Joey Moore of Alabama ran one of the first 3-second Pro Mod passes here. Richard and Kelly Stephens bought it from Tim and Sonya Tindle in September 2008 without knowing its real finances or how much work it needed. After a two-year legal fight and heavy spending that used up their life savings, and having fallen behind on payments to the Tindles, they closed it for good in late 2011. Ozzy Moya bought Emerald Coast in 2016, made major upgrades and reopened it, the fourth strip he had bought and brought back.
