History

Tommy and Nell Morton built this strip along the North Carolina-Virginia line, and it held its first race in July 1968. It changed hands several times. In 1999 it closed for a while after the season started, and its future was in doubt. That December many of the racers decided to keep it going and formed a corporation of about 130 shareholders. The racer-owned corporation still runs it today as an IHRA eighth-mile strip.
