On August 24, 1958, the Highway Saints Drag Club sponsored a race on an abandoned airstrip six miles due north of Elfrida, just west of what was then Highway 666 (now U.S. Highway 191). The strip is barely visible in satellite photos today. The program included an exhibition race between two kids driving Micro Midgets. A Sunday race there in October 1958 was rained out and moved to October 12. General admission was 50 cents, and a pit pass cost another 50 cents.
