The Kansas City Timing Association held occasional drag races at this World War II auxiliary landing field north of Edna, including a two-day event on October 3-4, 1953 (photos in Hot Rod, May 1954, p. 38). The strip hosted an NHRA regional championship on July 3-4, 1954, where Melvin Heath won top eliminator at 125.88 mph in his ‘52 Chrysler-powered alcohol dragster. In 1957 the Ozark Timing Association of Springfield, Missouri, raced there on the second and fourth Sundays, starting April 14, when 700 spectators watched 87 racers. In 1958 they raced on the first and third Sundays. The field had three runways, each 4,000 feet long and 100 feet wide, with two connecting taxiways. It closed to air traffic sometime between 1979 and 1982, and the runways are still there in bad shape.
