W.C. Williams dated the start of this strip to about 1957 and has written about its early days. Races were running by 1961, perhaps earlier. On Sunday, July 29, 1962, a North Carolina championship event, Ronnie Butler won Super Stock and the state title at 13.12 and 112.50 MPH. Ronnie Sox finished fourth after his Dodge developed engine trouble and he borrowed a Chevy from Bunk Nichols and Bill Ingold. Malcolm Durham reportedly raced here. Easy Street was on a 1968 list of 325 U.S. drag strips in the Swedish magazine Start & Strip, but Williams thought it had closed before 1968, so the listing may be wrong.
