The Durant city council turned down drag racing at the city airport in 1956, then two years later approved races on the last Sunday of each month, sponsored by the Durant Jaycees and run by the Roadbinders car club. The track was NHRA sanctioned by 1959, and in 1960 the Durant Timing Association ran the races. A couple of NHRA records were set at a June 1960 meet, one by L. C. Kirby of Dallas in AM/SP with an 11.16. Nothing more has turned up.
