Roy W. Hembree, the CEO, filed incorporation papers for this strip on December 2, 1963, and Bill Hembree was a co-owner. Opening dates differ. Richard McFalls, who keeps an archive on the track, gave the grand opening as November 17, 1963, while Andrew Wolf dates it to November 3, 1963, when more than 1,000 people came out. The strip was on Boardtown Road five miles west of Blue Ridge. Cars ran south to north, and spectators stood or sat on the small hillside along the east side. In May 1965 the track hosted a three-day Super Stock and Factory Experimental show called the Southern World Series of Drag Racing, a barnstorming group that also raced at two other Southern strips. Before it closed it was called Lost Mountain Dragstrip. Poor attendance probably finished it off. The old strip is now the runway of Blue Ridge Skyport Airport, a small rural field.
