The newly formed Spokane Roadster Racing Association, with 35 members, asked the Deer Park town council for use of the municipal airport, half a mile east of town, and got permission for races on April 2, 1950, and the following week. They raced on the north-south runway, 6,300 feet long, which reportedly had a good surface. The April 2 event went well, and Jack Hordemann ran the best time at 100.019 MPH in his ‘32 Ford Model A. Another race followed on April 16, and it was popular enough that the club set up three races a month. On April 30 Hordemann ran 108.2 MPH. The airport didn’t see racing again until 1953.
