De Winton Airfield was a World War II RCAF training station south of Calgary and east of De Winton. It closed in 1944 and is now the privately run De Winton/South Calgary Airport, where most runways are in disrepair and no longer used by fixed-wing aircraft. Around April 1956, seven Calgary car clubs formed the Calgary Timing Association, which held its first drag race at De Winton on May 19, 1956. More races followed that summer, but the only road in was in very poor shape, and 1956 was the only year of racing there. The last race was on September 16.
