This asphalt airstrip was four miles north of Dovesville on Highway 52. At the first race, on September 28, 1957, spectators paid 90 cents and racers $1.50. Races ran every Saturday as the Dixie Drag Races, and from October 5, 1957, NASCAR sanctioned and supervised them. In 1963 a group of racers led by J. O. Padgett tried and failed to get permission for a Thanksgiving Day race on a taxi strip at the airport.
