The Jaycees held a few drag races at Lake D’Arbonne Municipal Airport, now Union Parish Airport, four miles southeast of Farmerville. The airport opened in 1964, and the first race there was February 14, 1965. New lights allowed the first night race on June 12. Races may have run every other Sunday. H. W. Thurston was track director. The strip had a paved pit, paid cash prizes and charged spectators $1. Proceeds went toward two Little League baseball fields, which were started in July 1965 at an estimated cost of $6,000. The 1966 season opened January 16, with races on the first and third Sundays.
