Dale County Dragway sat on the north side of Waterford Road, just off Highway 231 north of Newton, about ten miles northwest of Dothan. The 3-B Drag Strip had run on the same site in the 1960s. When Dale County opened hasn’t been found. It raced every Saturday night, and the Sunday, May 19, 1985 race paid a total purse of over $3,000. On Saturday night, June 4, 1988, the IHRA-sanctioned track held the second round of its six-race Dixie Pro Stock circuit, paying $1,000 to the top eliminator and adding a Miss Dale County Dragway beauty contest. A Super Stock Nostalgia event followed on August 6 and a Nostalgia Nationals on August 20, 1988. Ken Caddis was killed at an October 8, 1988 race when he lost control of his 1988 Pontiac Trans Am pro stocker. By 1989 the track was NHRA-sanctioned, holding a pro stock race on April 22. It closed for good around 1990.
