History

The grand opening of this eighth-mile strip was a two-day IHRA National Title Series race set for April 22-23, 1978. It may have been rained out, since another two-day Title Series race was scheduled a few months later for July 1-2. Title Series races followed on April 7-8, 1979, and May 3-4, 1980, when John Brumley of Miami won Pro Stock at 5.30 and 125.95 MPH. The track changed hands now and then over the years. Nick Bresaw and Tommy Fitzgerald bought it in 2015 and put upwards of $3 million into upgrades. It opened and ran briefly, then closed early because the owners wanted to retire. It stayed closed until Michael Newcome and Rick Wetherbee worked out a lease-to-purchase deal, and it reopened in 2018 under IHRA sanction.
