History

This track, four miles west of Rogersville, started racing around August 1964, on Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Charley Ryan managed it from 1965 to 1968, when it was called Davy Crockett Drag Strip. In 1970 it ran under AHRA rules and added Armco guardrails, new bleachers and restrooms. IHRA sanctioned the eighth-mile strip in 1975. It was advertised for sale in early 1976, when Bill Henderson and Bud Willis owned it. It has also been called Cherokee Dragway and Cherokee Raceway Park, and it still runs as an eighth-mile strip under IHRA sanction.
