The Tulsa Timing Association and the Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsored drag races at the old Tulsa Commercial Airport, renamed Cherokee Airpark sometime between 1952 and 1954. The airport closed around 1954, freeing it for other uses. The 1955 season opened April 3 and ended November 13, when Wade Phillips of Abilene, Texas, won top eliminator in his Olds-powered roadster. That was the last race there.
