No one has pinned down where this strip was yet.
C. B. and Willie Mae Guthrie and Lloyd and Marguerite Pearce filed incorporation papers for Carbon Hill Drag Strip on June 24, 1969. One account holds that Verlie Barton built the Winston County strip because of a feud or disagreement his sons had at the Carbon Hill and Nauvoo drag strips, and that this is why the Winston County sign read “Home of the Bartons.”
