Research turned up at least one race on an eighth-mile strip here, on July 22, 1956. Bill Hammer of Decatur won the factory modified division in his Corvette-engined ‘56 Chevy with a best speed of 65.23 mph. A photo of a 1953 race on the Gear Jammers’ strip has also surfaced, and David Blume has written about racing at Camp Ellis in 1954.
