The Drag-ons, an Albany car club, held their first drag race in the Camp Adair area on January 31, 1953, where Al Ward was fastest at 16.8 seconds in his 1932 Ford roadster. The second race, on February 8, 1953, ran on a two-mile paved straightaway near the E. E. Wilson Game Management area, with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes. Wayne Mahaffey of Salem won with the best quarter-mile time, 14.8 seconds in his Cadillac-powered 1935 Ford Phaeton. On April 26, 1953, the Northwest Timing Association held its first race there, a well-attended event with a $2 entry fee and eight classes. That was the last racing at Camp Adair.
