An eighth-mile drag strip was set up at the California State Fairgrounds. On April 27, 1958, Ed Cortopassi and Douglas Butler set a track record of 100 mph in the “Glass Slipper” dragster and hoped to beat it at the next race on May 11. The 1959 season opened on January 18, and the last race was on April 10, 1960. Until 1968 the State Fair was on the California Exposition site, and then it moved to a site north of downtown Sacramento. The old fairground site was sold for development in 1970.
