Drag races ran at Beverly Airport by 1954, and possibly earlier. A 1958 Lowell Sun article said racing there started in 1947, but nothing backs that up.
Background
Beverly Regional Airport is owned by the city and spreads across parts of Beverly, Danvers and Wenham. Today it's a reliever field, taking small general aviation traffic off Logan International when Boston gets busy.
