Lonnie McClain opened the Battlefield eighth-mile strip, about five miles north of Collinsville, out of a love of racing and of what he called just regular folks. The track was short and narrow its first year, and he widened and lengthened it in 1995. Michael Street, who ran it in its last years, closed it in 2023.
