A racer remembered a track in Prairieville that held the very last AHRA race. He was there but wasn’t sure of the year, maybe 1987. No newspaper reports of a drag strip in or near Prairieville have turned up, but a small general aviation airport built there before 1981 may have hosted drag races. Its 2,200-foot north-south runway was paved sometime after 1983, and a 1991 USGS topo map names the private field Babin Landing Strip. As housing closed in, the airport shut down by 1998. By 2008 the runway was gone, with Caribbean Drive built parallel on the west side, a long pond on the east, and houses on the old strip.
