Frank Spittle remembered a paved eighth-mile strip in Wadesboro. Walter G. Knotts of Wadesboro filed incorporation papers for Anson Drag Strip, Inc. on August 23, 1965, and George Hinson promoted it in the late 1960s. In 1971-72 it was called Anson County Drag Strip. Steve Hildreth placed it on the south side of Highway 74, just west of where Anson High School is now, and the strip shows up there on a 1969 aerial photo.
