Anchorage Dragway held its grand opening on July 3-5, 1965, and most of what’s known comes from a newspaper ad for that event. The NHRA-sanctioned track reportedly sat on 160 acres, with bleachers for 3,000 people, concessions and parking for 2,000 cars. Mark Beal, whose family moved onto the site as caretakers in 1969, said the track was forced to close because neighbors objected.
